Summer Message Series Back to Basics: The Apostle's Creed

This summer we are going to be looking at the Apostle's Creed to help re-ground ourselves in the basics of what it means to be a Christian. While we know that we all we have slightly different takes and variations on each of the topics, we hope that this series will be helpful to help us all think through what it is that we believe by going back to the basics. We've also posted a copy of the Apostle's Creed and our speaker/topic schedule below so that you can follow along with us.

Treaty Acknowledgement

We [I] would like to begin by acknowledging that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, the Métis, and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. This territory is also covered by the Upper Canada Treaties. Today, the meeting place of Toronto (from the Haudenosaunee word Tkaronto) is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work/present in this territory.

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ,
His only begotten Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead and buried;
He descended into hell;
the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
‍‍‍the resurrection of the body,
‍‍‍and the life everlasting.
